How well do you know yourself?

Being successful as an athlete takes a lot of things.  Hard work, passion and a strong desire to be the best are just a few ways of describing what it takes.

In his book, The Outliers – a book about men and women who do things that are out of the ordinary to great success – Malcolm Gladwell begins with sharing The Matthew Effect, which tells us the family you are born into isn’t enough for success in life.  As he unpacks the principle, we learn of three key things that help someone be outstanding which include: natural talent, opportunity, and hard work. Gladwell suggests all three are necessary to contribute to how successful someone is in their pursuit of glory.  The trick to all of this is being able to recognise these three things as they present themselves and overcoming any barriers in the way.

Ben Crowe, Life coach and High Performance to athletes such as tennis legend, Ash Barty, talks of three basic questions to strive forwards and make progress:

Q1. How well do you know yourself,

Q2. Do you know what you want? and thirdly,

Q3. Do you know how to get there?

The question then becomes how do you find out who you are?

Sport Competency Assessments

Sport competency assessments are a tool that can give immense insight into discovering who you are. Coupled with standard behavioural assessments athletes can see who they naturally are and how they are currently showing up. This is the starting point of great athlete mindset coaching.

The assessments are designed to help athletes discover their greatest strengths in sports and how to use them more effectively.
Getting to the top is not easy. We want to help athletes and their coaching teams find their most natural way by identifying where their greatest potential is.

The reports will not guarantee a top athlete. However, we believe that the amount of information the available reports contain can help them to become one. We believe this report can provide athletes and their coach with another perspective of themselves as an athlete. It is possible that they did not consider some of the competences to be special strengths. Or, maybe they are yet to consider some of them being so critical to their success.

Once the athlete has a basis to start from after a deep exploration of who they are, we move on to what they want? The goals they have set for themselves. Coaching then looks at what is in the way and we work on mindset, beliefs, and unresolved emotional experiences to clear the path towards success.

The Sports Capacity Assessments

The Sports Capacity Assessments identifies an athletes’ greatest strengths and how to use them to improve performance and gain a competitive advantage.

The assessments were designed for elite athletes who are presently competing at:

  • Professional, semi-professional or national level
  • Lower levels, but determinedly striving to reach the above levels

The Sports Capacity Assessments were developed for both individual and team sport athletes and coaches.
Add in working with a mindset coach to gain even more from unpacking the reports.

At the highest level of sport

At the highest level of sport, being the best can be marginal.  In an environment where everyone is athletically gifted, disciplined and hard-working, those who win know athletic talent and hard work are not enough to become the best.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. We are a community sports team. Do you offer community teams and coaches access to competency assessments or is only available to high performance athletes and teams?

A. Yes. We offer options for both community sports teams and high performance. Contact us for a discovery call and we can share more of what is available.

Q. What is the difference between a Sport Competency Assessment and the Extended DISC Behavioural Profile?  Should we get both?

A. The Extended DISC Behavioural Profile report provides an assessment of current behaviour when mapped against the four DISC personality types of Dominance, Influence, Stability and Compliance.  Whereas the Sport Competency Assessment provides a strengths based report measuring across 18 sport competencies.  There are benefits to accessing both reports for the athlete/team/coach ready for change.

Q. How long do the assessments take and do we get a report straight away?

A. The sport competency assessment surveys take a little longer than our EDISC Behavioral Profile assessments as there are more questions. Assessment surveys take about 30mins.  Reports come to us and you can book an unpack session in advance.

Q. How do the team reports work? Do you offer facilitated group unpack sessions?

A. This is agreed up front during a discovery call by the coach knowing their athletes/team culture.  We can either provide the coach or team captain the report to unpack with your team, and we also offer facilitated unpack sessions.

Q. Other than the competency assessments, what additional services are available?

A. Athletes, sports coaches and the whole team can also undertake an EDISC Behavioral Profile assessment. In addition, we offer mindset coaching on setting goals, strategy and removing blocks.  Book a discovery call to learn more.
